Echinacea Tincture and Red Clover Infusion

So, I began my journey into the world of herbal medicine about a month or so ago with Susun Weed.

I've made allies with Nettle leaf and Red Clover. Every other day I drink a cup or more of one or the other herb infusion that I let sit overnight on my kitchen counter.

The nettle infusion is a bit grainy to the taste and little like spinach. Red clover is more like a lighter lipton tea. That's probably not an accurate description, but it's the closest I can think of.

Both are pretty tolerable without any sweetener.

Since I've been drinking them, my menstrual periods are not as severe. I had no cramps the last time, the duration was shorter, and my heaviest days were not as heavy as in the past.

For all women out there you might consider doing this.

I've also prepared an echinacea tincture to prepare for the cold/flu season.

The first photo is of the echinacea tincture. The next is of the red clover.

Filipino and American POWs death march during WWII -- Ben Steele's new book "Tears in the Darkness"

Here's the article from CNN...

http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/07/13/bataan/index.html?eref=rss_topstories

I might buy it off Amazon. But sounds like a good read.

As a side note, my own father (a Filipino that lived during the Japanese invasion) for years had a disdain for anything Japanese. He even disliked my taking a Japanese language class in college!

The photo is of Ben Steele as a POW at a Japanese coal mine prison camp in 1944. 25,000 Filipino soldiers and 1,500 American soldiers died during the Bataan Death March.

Herb and Vegetable Gardening

I haven't thinned out my red clover. I want to just transplant the seedlings instead of just cutting. I'm going to try and replant them in another spot or in pots.

I've replanted some green beans and left the rest in the raised bed.

I'm going to cut out the escarole and other lettuce to make room for the red clover seedlings.

I want to try echinacea seeds soon.

I'll up load pics soon.

Public Enemies...Good for One Time Only...Must See It for Cotillard!

Saw Johnny Depp over the weekend. Gosh is he lookin' old. However, he's still got that 21 Jump Street handsome-ness that women since the 80s have swooned over.

Not sure if I liked him as Dillinger. Didn't quite believe him as a ruthless, bank robber from the midwest. He's too quirky for that. Better off as Edward Scissorhands, Ichabod Crane, or even Willy Wonka. There's a strangeness about him that has no place in gangster land. The southern accent could've been better.

Oddly enough, I thought Christian Bale would've been a better Dillinger. More believable. Instead he plays the good cop/FBI's star agent under Hoover's new program. His southern accent was terrible too. Both men need better linguist coaches. It was about as thick as saran wrap over salad.

Didn't like the shaky camera techniques and the focuses on action instead of talking heads. There needed to be more of a balance. I understand that the intent was to build drama without having it told to you. But it was more of a distraction and annoyance than tension builder.

Lots of great actors and actresses. The one who stole the show for me was Marion Cotillard. Aaahhh. Like a breath of fresh air. There's an authenticity about her that very few American actresses can replicate. I loved watching her. I remember her scenes the best. She truly was the "blackbird" that flies away.

Great film if you want to see lots of cameos, some exciting and graphic violence, hubris and fictional historical drama set in the 30s. But you'll probably never see it again, nor want to.

My husband said we should have seen Bruno. I'm glad I got to see this film. Cotillard's performance made me tear up at the end.
